Top scholarships for veterans

The Garner Trust Scholarship is available to students that will attend an Arkansas college, university, or technical/trade school. It will not be transferable to an out of state institution of higher learning. Applicants must be children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren of American Legionnaires in good standing of two or more consecutive years' membership. Stepchildren of living Legionnaires may apply if their parent is currently married to the Legion member. Children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of deceased Legionnaires are also eligible. Applicants or Legionnaires must be a resident of Arkansas. Applicants must have received a high school diploma or the equivalent by the time this scholarship will be awarded or be a graduate of a two-year college from an Arkansas Institution. Applicants must provide one character reference in business letter format from an official of the student's school, one letter of endorsement from an American Legion Post officer (local preferred), and one from an unrelated person belonging to none of the above. The Kathern F. Gruber Scholarship Program was established to support and assist spouses, children, and grandchildren of blind and low vision veterans, and those of active-duty blind and low vision service members of the U.S. Armed Forces. The blind or low vision veteran family member is not required to be a BVA member for the spouse, child, or grandchild to receive a scholarship. Additionally, to be eligible for one of the scholarships, an applicant must have been accepted for admission, or already be enrolled, as a student in an accredited institution of higher education, or business, secretarial, or vocational training school. Successful applicants for the scholarships must have demonstrated excellence in their past academic work and promising potential for achievement in higher education pursuits. The Gruber scholarships for veterans' dependents are for one year only but recipients can re-apply and receive the award up to four times during their academic careers. The Tony Orlando Yellow Ribbon Scholarship focuses on broadening the number of traditionally underrepresented groups in the management and operation ranks of the transportation, travel and tourism industry. Applicants must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada. They must have a declared major or course of study relevant to the transportation, travel and tourism industry. Transportation, travel and tourism encompass a varying range of professions from accounting to hospitality management and everything in between. Applicants must either: have a physical or sensory disability, as defined by the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act; or be a child of a wounded U.S. or Canadian military veteran; or be a veteran of the U.S. or Canadian military. All American applicants must submit the FAFSA, while all Canadian applicants must submit the Canadian T1 Tax Form. High school transcripts or Secondary School Records are required for College Freshman and Sophomores, only, to apply. The Pacific Northwest Gold Star Scholarship was established by the Community Military Appreciation Committee (CMAC), which connects veteran advocacy organizations in and around southwest Washington. Applicants must be the child of a deceased parent who served in the U.S. armed forces in support of the Global War on Terror (2001-Present). Applicants may be either of the following: (1) Be a current or prior resident of Clark, Cowlitz, or Skamania County, WA. (2) The military service parent was a resident of Clark, Cowlitz, or Skamania County in Washington State; or had resided in one of those counties prior to entering military service. The Veterans United Foundation Scholarship creates opportunities for family members of service members and veterans to achieve their educational dreams. To qualify for the scholarship program, applicants may either be a veteran with 100 percent service connected disability; a surviving spouse of a deceased servicemember from a service-related death; or a surviving child of a deceased servicemember from a service-related death. Applicants may be currently enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited college or university for the upcoming semester to pursue an associate's, bachelor's, graduate, post-graduate or doctoral degree. Applicants must be comfortable with sharing personal stories and aspirations with Veterans United Foundation. Applicants must be able to provide the following within three business days of application submission: deceased parent or spouse's military documents (DD214 and death certificate /or DD1300); official benefit letter showing disability rating, if applicable; full FAFSA; proof of enrollment from the accredited college or university; and a government-issued photo ID. Applicants must also be able to provide Veterans United Foundation with receipts or invoices related to eligible educational costs as they are incurred in order to receive payment. The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Foundation Scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior toward an accredited higher education program. The scholarship will be presented to the winner at the NJVVM 2025 Memorial Day Ceremony. Applicants must have a family member who is an active-duty service member or veteran. The graduating high school senior must have visited the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Students interested in applying for the scholarship should send an email to Ralph Mavis, MA Curator and Historian Vietnam Veteran. They must include the following information: student name, relation who is an active-duty service member or veteran, date and time they plan to visit the Memorial, number of guests accompanying them, and the high school they attend (name of their history teacher, if possible). Through a new TROY Partnership Program, the University is awarding a 10-percent tuition scholarship to all U.S. Military Veterans and their spouses and dependents in appreciation for their service. Scholarship eligibility is verified by the applicant's Department of Defense form 214 (DD214). This scholarship cannot be used in conjunction with any other scholarship or tuition assistance awarded by Troy University. The Military and Family Scholarship is available to graduate students in the upcoming academic year 2025-2026. Students entering 25/FA, 25/T1, 25/T2, 26/SP, 26/T3, 26/T4, or 26/T5 are eligible, and any current student needing to recertify eligibility for the current academic year.
